Leonora Carrington, la última memoria viva del movimiento
surrealista cuenta la batalla que emprendió para liberarse de una
educación opresora y explorar y explayar su inconsciente hasta
luchar contra la locura en un psiquiátrico español en los 40. Escapó
a París con Max Ernst. Fue el primer brinco en su extraordinaria,
riesgosa y apasionada biografía. Su vida fue una travesía a través de
eventos históricos y movimientos artísticos. Ello se refleja en su obra
que incursiona tanto en la pintura, la literatura y el cine, donde se
desempeñó como directora de arte. Con la invasión Nazi en Francia,
Max fue arrestado y Leonora huyó a España al final de la Guerra Civil.
En Lisboa se casó con el diplomático mexicano y poeta Renato Leduc.
Tras emigrar a México, Leonora contrajo matrimonio con el fotógrafo
Emericko Weisz, quien rescató los negativos de “la Maleta Mexicana”
de Capa. Leonora falleció en México en 2011 a los 94 años de edad.
Leonora Carrington was one of the last living Surrealist painters of
her era. This film tells of her struggle for freedom from an oppressive
education and her passion to explore the conscious and unconscious
world. In the 1930’s she met Max Ernst and lived with him in Paris and
this was the start of her eventful, risky and passionate life. After the
Nazi invasion of France Max was arrested and Leonora fled to Spain,
just when the Spanish Civil War was ending. In Spain she had a nervous
breakdown and spent some time in a Spanish asylum.
In Lisbon she married the Mexican diplomat and poet Renato Leduc
and emigrated to México, Leonora later married the Hungarian
photographer Emericko Weisz, and they had two sons.(It was Weiz who
saved the Hungarian photographer Robert Capa´s negatives of his
photos of the Spanish Civil which were later discovered in the “Mexican
Suitcase”).
Leonora died in México in 2011 at the age of 94.
