The Sitges Festival rises as a fortress against the crisis

A total of twelve Spanish productions are part of the official program of the 40th edition of the Sitges Festival, to be held from 4 to 14 October and whose entries will not increase despite the increase in the VAT rate.

Spanish films announced this week joined international Cosmopolis, David Cronenberg, starring Robert Pattinson; Holy Motors, Leo Carax; Chained, Jennifer Lynch; or Tall man, Pascal Laugier, with Jessica Biel.
One more year, the appointment will host the best national and international cinema fantasy and horror, although “within limits tolerable and legal”, as stated in reference to the controversy for the film A serbian film, directed by Srdjan Spasojevic, containing controversial images that appeared in minor.
The European premiere of the film body, Oriol Paulo, will inaugurate this edition. It is, once again, of a commitment to an opera prima, even though it has a “spectacular” cast composed of Belén Rueda, José Coronado, Aura Garrido and Hugo Silva.
The “wave of talent that has given the Spanish film”, in the words of Hall, is collected in this festival with other premieres of new directors, as it is the case of Juan Carlos Medina, who returns to Sitges with the film Insensibles. Alex Brendemühl stars in this story, in which the Spanish Civil war is used as stage to develop a fantastic plot.
The sacred name of Daniel Calparsoro (leap into the void, warriors) will arrive in Sitges with the release of invader, a film that, as the director of the festival, is “breaks the taboo that Spain is not good thriller”. In the cast include Alberto Amman, Antonio de la Torre, Inma Cuesta, Karra Elejalde and Luis Zahera.
This year the price of tickets will not increase in this festival of fantastic film, despite the VAT rise. “We cannot do him this to the public, it has been something that has caught us clashed,” said Hall. In this sense, adds that the basis of the festival is a “young audience” which is precisely the most punished by unemployment.
Documentary and short films
One of the directors who returns to the festival is Oscar Aibar (the great Vazquez) to present the bosc, a film of fantasy and terror that also stars Alex Brendemühl.
In addition to the aforementioned films, impossible, by J.A. Bayona, is another of the proposals of this Edition, which will be scheduled as a special event. Likewise, and in this way, Animals, the directorial debut of Marçal Forés will be screened.
The documentary genre will also have their space in Sitges and which highlights the release of Leonora Carrington: the surrealist game of Javier Martín Domínguez, who will compete in the non fiction section new visions section.
On the other hand, the Spanish representation between fantasy and horror films has reached 30 percent, with the projection of about 40, as he has indicated room.
