BLUE BIRD, KAUWBOY and SISTER Nominated
Children Juries in Six European Cities will Elect Winner

Nominated for the European Film Academy’s first Young Audience Award are BLUE BIRD by Gust Van den Berghe (Belgium), KAUWBOY by Boudewijn Koole (the Netherlands) and SISTER by Ursula Meier (France/Switzerland). A new section on www.europeanfilmawards.eu offers children and adults more information about the nominated films and the six cities participating in the EFA Young Audience Award.

The nomination committee – consisting of Florence Dupont, artistic director, Sancy Film Festival for Young People (France), Jerzy Moszkowicz, director, International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino (Poland), and Maryanne Redpath, director, Generation section, Berlin International Film Festival (Germany) – convened at the Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival in Norway and determined the nominations:

It was a great challenge to participate in the nomination procedure for this first European Young Audience Award. Due to the great diversity – in form and content – of the submitted films, our discussions were intense. We not only discussed films of various genres and formats, we also considered the diversity of today’s young audiences. In the end we selected three high quality films which will challenge young audiences but haven’t necessarily been made exclusively for them. We wish to congratulate the nominated films and hope that the young audience juries in the six participating cities will enjoy watching these films.

The special initiative on the occasion of this year’s 25th European Film Awards will kick off this year with a network of the following six partners: EYE Film Institute Netherlands, Film Center Serbia, Danish Film Institute, Deutsche Kindermedienstiftung Goldener Spatz (Germany), Swedish Film Institute, and the National Cinema Museum (Italy).

On Young Audience Film Day on 10 June, the three nominated films will be screened to a young audience (10 – 13 year-olds) in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Copenhagen, Erfurt, Norrköping and Turin. And it is the young audience that will act as a jury and vote for the winner right after the screenings. The presentation of the award will take place on the same day in Erfurt.

The European Film Academy Young Audience Award is organised and presented by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions with the support of the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM). The national Young Audience Film Day events will be organised with the support of the respective national partners. Official translation partner is English Express.
