Seville Film Festival Director Quits

Move comes just after further financing cuts that cast shadow over film event's future.

MADRID -- Less than two weeks after municipal authorities cut the Seville European Film Festival's funding, Javier Martin Dominguez stepped down as artistic director of the European event and casting doubt on the viability of the event.

The Seville Town Hall reduced the festival's budget from €1.7 million ($2.2 million) in 2010 to $1.4 million last year and cuts announced in late December showed a 43% cut from one of the key sponsors, putting in jeopardy the event's future.
Martin Dominguez has overseen the growth of the festival during the past four years, with sidebars focusing on European productions and offering special attention to European institutions like Eurimagesand the European Film Academy, which announced its European Film Awards nominations at the festival.
