As proof of the progression of celebrities who have emerged from Sitges’ harvest over recent years, in a special event the Festival will be programming Lo Imposible (The Impossible), J. A. Bayona’s film destined to be one of the extraordinary events of the year on a worldwide level. Also, at a special screening and as an example of the work done by films schools and their rich harvest of talent, Sitges will be offering Escándalo Films’ production Animals, directed by Marçal Forés, one of this year’s most surprising debut films. In the documentary section it is also important to note the premiere of Leonora Carrington: El juego surrealista (Leonora Carrington: The Surrealist Game), by Javier Martín Domínguez, which will be competing in the No Ficción (Non-Fiction) section of the Nuevas Visiones (New Visions) category.
Sitges 2012’s program with a Spanish hallmark will also include Argento Dracula 3D, an Enrique Cerezo co-production, starring Thomas Kretschmann (Best Actor at Sitges 2007), Asia Argento and Unax Ugalde, among others.
Spanish cinema will be present in all the Festival’s sections, formats and facets, including approximately fifty Spanish-produced short films. And also in the parallel activities in the Noves Visions section, revolving around works from independent creators like Karlos Alaustrey, Iker Irrutía or Borja Echevarría. Regarding its relationship with the Spanish audiovisual sector, the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is pleased to be reinforcing its collaboration with the Entity of Management of Audiovisual Producers’ Rights (Egeda), through the VeoSitges service for the viewing of Spanish films present at the Festival by professionals who request it.
